What would you do if you had half a million dollars and the domain you wanted was already purchased for $35 million dollars?
Well, if you are Mike Kugler – you buy the next best thing! The gTLD Vacation Rentals for the low low price of $500,300. (We will get to the part about sanity vs. stupidity later on)
VacationRentals.com was sold in 2007 for the low low price of only $35,000,000 making it the 2nd highest price ever paid for a domain. From our side of the fence, it is a great domain and well worth the money. Did we wring our hands and beat ourselves in self-flagellation? Did we drive ourselves completely over edge because “Daht Kahm Iz Keeng”?
Naw… we just waited 10 years for the generic top level domain to come available and scooped it up for the absurdly low price of $500,300. SevenTY times as much as what we paid for our site www.vacation.rentals
Now, there are a couple of gasbags out there who blather on about people automatically appending the dot com to the end of the rentals and I am sure there are. SevenTY times as much? Probably not.
As of 8 November, 2018 we rank #6 on the planet for vacation rentals on SEMRush and already have almost 1400 listings – on a site that is just over 5 months old. People are finding the site with ease and are signing up at a furious pace. At this rate, $500,300 will seem like a bargain basement steal. Plus, millenials are notorious for rapidly adapting to new and evolving technologies. This alone gives them even more reason to search, click, use.
We are American – We are patriotic – We are about choice. We do not believe in limiting choices with .COMmunistic restrictions. Long wave the gTLD flag of freedom!
